In Education, the backbone of the Department will be  the undergraduate degree program in BME. The aim of this program is that, once finished, its students will be able to:

- Pursue higher education in successfully competing in the prestigious scholarships to enter in the higher education world class programs abroad, or

- Become outstanding Clinical Engineers capable of operating and maintaining advanced equipments in hospitals and healthcare establishments. They will also be able to explore new possibilities of using those equipments as research tools to work hand in hand with medical doctors in the medical and scientific research projects, or

- Become progressive K-12 (kinder garden to 12th grade) science teachers to disseminate the concepts of emerging science and technology or become educational leaders capable of creating new generation of primary and secondary schools, or

- Become great entrepreneurs capable of transforming ideas into commercialized viable product, managing healthcare establishments, and establishing startup companies.

Hence, we will develop a curriculum that is an appropriate blend between basic and applied sciences and between fundamental knowledge and practical applications. The curriculum will be designed based on the Vietnamese traditional background, current needs of the society, our long term vision and the guideline of the U.S. Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET). By consequent, it will not only response to the real and urgent needs of Vietnam in the healthcare but also aim to pursue the long term life sciences research trench in the global scientific world. Therefore, it will reflect the current real world and be flexible to be transformed along with the progress of the society. The core of this curriculum is based on 2 concepts: Mentoring Team and Surrogate Department. In the Mentoring Team concept, the students will be nurtured by becoming members of a team composing of a faculty member, post doctoral fellow, graduate students and undergraduate students.

During the four year study, students will constantly be nurtured to engage in scientific research and clinical practice. The following is a series of courses which illustrate this innovative concept.

- During the first year, students will learn to work in teams and explore different avenues in biomedical engineering. They will explore individually and in group to investigate existing medical device and equipment by reverse engineering. These works allow triggering their curiosity and motivate them to study. At the end of each semester, they will present a poster and give an oral presentation on their projects.

- During the second year, students will be given a scientific topic and they have to do literature search. The students will read and summarize relevant papers and will submit at the end of the semesters an essay highlighting the essential points and problems presented. These works allow them to learn scientific methods to approach a problem.

- During the third year, students will explore a specific topic in their chosen field in collaboration with researchers at the professional schools (medical, dental, pharmacy) and in industry.  The main goal of this year is to encourage students to take initiative and be focused. Students will submit and orally defend a proposal focusing on specific issues to be investigated and will propose a time table for the following year. This teaches students how to learn by themselves and how to teach each other. It strengthens students' openness, integrity, ethics and communication skills and sharpens their sense of critique, analysis and synthesis.

- During the fourth year, students will continue the proposed research work in the framework of the Honor Thesis. Students will submit their final reports in the format of a scientific journal publication.  One of the goals of this year is to hone students' research skills in a professional way.
