Introduction

The International University’s goal is to become a high quality, research-oriented university by 2015. IU has strongly been motivating research activities to meet industry and society requirements of the nation.
Since its establishment, IU has been implementing the following policies to promote the faculty’s scientific research:

Offering a competitive salary policy to attract talented people and reducing teaching time to allow the faculty to focus on their own research.

Awarding small research grants to lecturers who surpass IU’s requirements in publishing papers: 31.551.000 VND (~$1,500 USD)/internationally published paper and 15.775.000 VND (~ $750 USD)/nationally published paper), the prizes “The Scientific Research Unit of the Year” and “The Technology Transfer Unit of the Year”,…

Strongly supporting the faculty to search more grants from sponsors such as the government, enterprises and international organizations.

IU has been on the way to reach its mission with remarkable research achievements during the past 7 years:

IU has created an excellent teaching and scientific research environment. This has attracted more and more leading professors and PhD holders who have experiences and strong capacity in doing research from prestigious universities in the world. Currently, the percentage of the faculty holding a Ph.D degree is more than 50%.

IU has built and upgraded more than 14 modern laboratories for teaching and doing research, including Molecular Biology, Protein Technology, Biomedical Engineering, Integrated Circuit Design, Embedded System, Physics, Micro Mechatronics, etc.

Strong research groups at the University were established to reinforce and expand research directions. The number of papers published in the ISI journal system quickly increases in Mathematics, Physics, Biotechnology, BioMedical Engineering and Computer Science, resulting in an annual average ratio of internationally published papers to lecturers of 0.77. The number of projects and the size of funds, grants also significantly increase, reaching 5 billion VND in total in 2010. Especially, IU has strongly focused on applied research projects to solve urgent social and economic problems of the country such as “Intelligent traffic control system over telecommunication infrastructure”, “Aquatic integrated monitoring system”..
